China’s first international conference on the safety of electric vehicles

On July 10, the first international Congress on innovations in the field of safety of electrical technologies was held in Baoding, Hebei.

The conference was organized by China automobile industry Association (CAAM), international Institute of automation engineers (SAE International), Hive Energy Technology Co., Ltd., Great Wall Motors Co., Ltd.Industry experts from Chinese Academy of Sciences, Chinese engineering Academy, us National laboratory, Tsinghua University, Korean Chengyuan University, China-Russia New Energy Materials Technology Research Institute, CHN-RUS NEMTRIand nearly 100 international/domestic well-known manufacturers, suppliers of components, batteries and systems, as well as Xinhua, China news agencies, NetEase, Sohu and other media. A total of 400 people witnessed this historic moment.

The meeting brought together a number of experts, including the inventor of “Quasi-solid porous polymer lithium ion power battery”, the president of China-Russian New Energy Materials and Technology Research Institute, the professor Wang Qingsheng of Peter the Great Polytechnic University, St. Petersburg, Russia. At the conference, he made a presentation on “Safety Factors Affecting Power Battery and Key Technologies of Lithium-ion Battery with Polymer Porous Electrolyte “. Based on the analysis of the safety of the battery design and the mechanism of heat release, the relationship between physical and chemical heat generation and battery structure, materials, systems, manufacturing, and practical application, he proposed that the design of the battery heat dissipation is qualitative and thermostable than the battery model with reduced heat release.

Professor Wang Qingsheng, president of China-Russia New Energy Materials and Technology Research Institute proposed the main factors affecting battery safety:

1) In battery design, it is not advisable for the manufacturer to reduce the thickness of current collectors and separators to increase the energy density in pursuit of higher power, which is the primary of the hidden dangers to the quality of the battery;

2) To increase the capacity of the battery, a system of three metals with an increased concentration of Nickel is used. A high concentration of Nickel in the induction environment of the battery is unstable. The destruction of the crystal structure, released by lithium and Nickel ions, threatens the safety of the integrity of the battery;

3) The quality of the current collector material and the metal battery housing is another problem caused by the deposition of metal during charging and discharging of the system;

4) Ordinary risk is associated with the use of the product without the application of safety measures now.
